A few days ago we mentioned as an evaluation committee to the FDA recommended approval of rosuvastatin in primary prevention for patients with no history of heart disease who have elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP). It seemed that the road "via inflammatory" definitely left open after the JUPITER ttn study. The PCR seemed to become the "new risk factor."
The Emergencing Risk Factors Collaboration, which brings together the authors of many of the prospective studies of cardiovascular ttn disease published in 2007 generated a database with 1,100,000 records of patients. ttn COn the financial support of the British Heart Foundation this month have published a meta-analysis in The Lancet, which presented its findings on the relationship between CRP and cardiovascular disease. Meta-analysis is of great size, using data from 22124 patients with serial measurements without cardiovascular disease. In their discussion the authors conclude that, although some indicators related to inflammation are associated with cardiovascular disease, most of this association depends on conventional risk factors and fibrinogen. There is also a difference between races
In the same number can read the Lancet editorial entitled: ttn C-reactive protein and cardiovascular risk: more fuel to the fire, a review seems to be in between. Editorialists close their reflection that, although the PCR is not the direct cause of cardiovascular disease, it may be useful to identify patients at risk and also to quantify the effectiveness ttn of our interventions.
No doubt we need new jobs geared specifically to inflammation indicators that help us define the role of CRP, the inflammation itself, in cardiovascular disease, particularly as a method of fine adjustment of focus when addressing patients with mild and moderate risk.
