Clinical Exercise Physiology of Exercise Physiology
C-reactive protein (CRP) is the best known inflammatory marker, and has shown its value in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events. In addition, high CRP levels have been associated with adverse effects during pregnancy. In nonpregnant women has been observed that physical activity lowers CRP levels, but this association has not been evaluated in pregnant women. Recently published results of a study (Hawkins et al, 2013, Med Sci Sports Exerc 15-Jul) that evaluated the association between physical activity and CRP concentrations during pregnancy trimesters. We studied 294 pregnant, assessing physical activity using accelerometers. The results showed an inverse association between physical activity and slight decrease in CRP in the second quarter. By contrast, a sedentary lifestyle related to increased levels of CRP. There was no relationship between physical activity and CRP either in the first or in the third trimester dyspraxia of pregnancy.
Objectively, physical activity demonstrated a protective effect in the second trimester of pregnancy, but has not been shown in the first and third quarter, so we need new longitudinal studies shed light on this issue.
