Introduction Blepharitis is a common quiropractico pathological condition in which inflammation from causes eyelid margin occurs. The eyelids have many roles, cover and protect the cornea and prevent scarring, quiropractico infection, and epithelial defects. With the closing of the eyelids, tears are spread across the surface of the eye to moisture and eye protection. Certain pathological conditions, however, may compromise the function of the eyelids.
Types of Blepharitis Blepharitis is a chronic condition in which the margins of the eyelids become inflamed. Not cause a reduction in visual acuity. The general public has little knowledge of the word, but the disease is very common and is often seen by ophthalmologists. There are two types: anterior and posterior.
Posterior blepharitis. Posterior blepharitis is immune origin, and arises as a result quiropractico of dysfunction of the meibomian glands. There are approximately quiropractico 30 meibomian glands on each eyelid and are located just behind the eyelashes, in a parallel line to the lid margins. These sebaceous quiropractico glands produce the lipid layer of tears. This layer of fat is essential quiropractico to prevent the evaporation of tears on the ocular surface, ensuring a smooth optical surface and preventing foreign substances can enter and contaminate eyes.
Anterior blepharitis. Anterior blepharitis is staphylococcal or seborrheic, and is less common than posterior blepharitis. It is more common in patients with acne rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp or facial areas. quiropractico If caused by acne rosacea is known as ocular rosacea.
Joint blepharitis. Blepharitis can also have components of anterior and posterior pathology. The dysfunction of meibomian gland secretions makes thicken, to accumulate these in the eyelid margin. This makes a staphylococcal superinfection with release occurring toxins originating lipases and anterior blepharitis.
Epidemiology Blepharitis its incidence increases with age. Blepharitis is more common in fair-skinned patients, perhaps because rosacea is more common quiropractico in this group. It occurs more often in people who live in colder climates. Also found a large increase in the incidence in patients with mental retardation can reach 30% of Down syndromes.
