Officials at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center said they have diagnosed two cases of scabies as they work to contact any who might have been exposed.
"We realized the diagnosis on Sept. 26 by skin scraping, and immediately, the patient was put into isolation on contact precautions, meaning conjunctivitis anyone going in and out of the room needs to wear gloves and gown," said Dr. Antonia Altomare.
Hospital officials said they are attempting to find every person who might have come in contact with the patient since she arrived at the hospital in mid-August. Because they have compromised immune systems, other patients in the oncology conjunctivitis unit are also at risk.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock will also be holding clinics on Friday and Saturday to do checkups on those who may have been exposed . Hospital officials said that because it takes so long for symptoms to appear, they will be staying on top of the situation for some time.
